The Cemetery is a perpetual care cemetery. We operate under the rules and regulations of the Texas Health and Safety Code. This means that special laws have been applied to our policies and practices to ensure the continuation of the Cemetery. Texas Department of Banking, Special Audits Division, conducts regular audits of our books and grounds.
The major regulations of cemeteries in Texas (including Perpetual Care Cemeteries) occur in Chapter 711 and 712 of the Texas Health and Safety Code. "This cemetery is operated as a perpetual care cemetery, which means that a perpetual care fund for its maintenance has been established in conformity with the laws of the State of Texas. Perpetual care means to maintain, repair, and care for the cemetery." 712.007.
The Cemetery was established in 1923. It quickly became the desired cemetery of prominent Dallas families. Visiting Forest Lawn Cemetery you will see some of the founding fathers of Dallas’ names on their family markers.
The American Legion Section was dedicated in 1929 and many fine American soldiers are buried here. Every Memorial Day there is a Flag Raising ceremony to honor our fallen soldiers.
The Cemetery is a non-profit Association owned and operated by the lot owners. A Board of Trustees is annually elected. All lot owners are invited to our annual meeting in March.
We plant seasonal flowers throughout the cemetery. The front gate opens at 8am and closes at 6pm daily. The grounds are regularly observed by the On-site Manager and grounds keeper. Parrots make their home in the cemetery during the summer .
